Sigiriya Rock Fortress
Rising 200 metres above the surrounding jungle, Sigiriya is one of Asia’s most remarkable archaeological sites. Built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century AD, this UNESCO World Heritage Site served as both a royal palace and a fortress, with frescoed galleries, water gardens, and panoramic views from the summit.
Polonnaruwa Ancient City
Sri Lanka’s second ancient kingdom is best explored by bicycle, weaving through a sprawling complex of royal palaces, Buddha statues, and dagobas that date back to the 11th and 12th centuries. The blend of Sinhala and South Indian architecture makes Polonnaruwa unlike anywhere else on the island.
