Day 1

“Ayubowan” On arrival at the recently refurbished Modern and State of the art International Airport,
you will be blessed to get your first taste of warm Sri Lankan hospitality; Representative will be met by
Island Leisure Lanka Airport Staff & English Speaking Chauffeur / Guide and transferred to Kandy (3 ½
hours drive each way) via Pinnawala.
Pinnawela – Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage App. 55 miles from Colombo, off the Colombo – Kandy
road is Pinnawela, where an orphanage was started in 1975 to house the abandoned and the
wounded elephants. The number of elephants has increased to more than 65 now; including Baby
Elephants brought from various parts, as well as the 23 babies born, as a result of the captive breeding
programme. The best time to visit is the feeding time from 0930-1000 hrs and 1330-1400 hrs and the
bathing time from 1000-1030 hrs and 1400-1430 hrs when all the elephants are taken to the river close

Visit Peradeniya Gardens Peradeniya Royal botanical Gardens- 147 acres in extent; Started in 1374 as a
pleasure garden of the Kings of Gampola and Kandy. There are more than 5,000 species of trees,
plants and creepers. Some rare and endemic as well as flora from the tropical world are found in the
gardens. Spice Garden and Orchid House are popular with tourists.

Avenue) was planted in 1905 and the Double Coconuts from the Seashells Island, with the largest seed
of all plants in the world is one such avenue.

After breakfast, depart Colombo (6 hours drive) via Kithulgala the location for film “Bridge on the river
Kwai “ filmed in 1956 that won 7 Oscars. St. Clair’s & Devon water falls en-route
Colombo – the trade and commercial capital has long been the traditional gateway to the Orient. Sri
Lanka’s largest city, it is located on the west coast and draws together all the cultures, religions and
influences of foreign lands into a pot-pourri of sounds, smells and a kaleidoscope of colour. The
original traders and settlers – the Arabs, Portuguese, Dutch and the British have left in their wake
churches and monuments, names and religions, costumes and food and smatterings of their
languages which have been absorbed into the speech of the Sri Lankan. Today, Colombo is a
fascinating city – a happy blend of east & west, past & present, with a charm of its own. A less known
but amazingly true fact is that Colombo has a superb range of high quality restaurants serving food
from all over the world and some of the best shopping opportunities in Asia. The main seaport of Sri
Lanka is in Colombo & adjoining it, is Pettah, a local bazaar & trading area. Other places of interest are
the beautiful Buddhist temples, Hindu temples, mosques, the historic Wolfendhal church, (1749)
residential areas where you find the stately homes of the affluent, the Colombo Museum, the
Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, the Folk Art Centre, Art Galleries, Parks,
Independence Square, the Zoo, the Ceramic Corporation famous for its well known brand “Noritake”
and ODEL the renowned shopping centre.
Shopping – visit Mlesna exquisite tea boutique, cashew nut shop, ready made garments and all sorts
at Majestic City. Visit the Lanka Ceramics Centre, a place where you can buy NORITAKE SET or other
ceramic items, visit the ODEL SHOP. Visit BAREFOOT, HOUSE OF FASHION and BEVERLY STREET at Kollupitya
